The Alder Street Flat

An 84 m² 1960s apartment for a cellist and her two cats, reworked around light, sound and a very long window seat.

The brief

Quiet, warm and good for practice

Our client practises cello four hours a day. The flat echoed, the light was blue and grey laminate ran through every room. She wanted somewhere that felt calm in the evening and generous when friends came over for chamber music.

We added acoustic linen panels behind the sofa, a wool rug over a felt underlay and soft-close everything. The window seat stores sheet music and doubles as seating for three.
